Reiki

Experience the deep, healing relaxation of Reiki.

Reiki benefits the body, mind and spirit, increasing feelings of wellbeing and positivity and restoring the balance that enables self healing.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese method of working with energy. The word ‘Reiki’ means Universal Life Energy - an energy which is all around us. The idea that there is a subtle energy that permeates us and surrounds us seems a strange concept from a Western perspective, however, it is a central belief in many Asian cultures and underlies many exercise systems, meditation practices and healing or treatment methods.

In China, for example, this energy is referred to as ‘chi’. Chi is used in a whole range of practices, for example: Feng Shui, Acupuncture, Martial arts, Tai Chi and Qi Gong.

A gentle, whole-person approach to wellbeing

In Japan the energy is called ‘ki’ and they have their own version of acupuncture – Shiatsu – which uses massage and finger-pressure on acupuncture points.

In India the same energy is referred to as ‘prana’ and breathing exercises, meditations and yoga techniques are used to bring the energy system into balance.

Why have a Reiki treatment?

Anyone can benefit from Reiki - whether you have a physical, mental or emotional ailment or just want to feel relaxed. A Reiki practitioner does not diagnose or intervene, instead an unlimited flow of energy is channelled into the recipient. The energy flows according to the recipient’s need on that occasion - creating a ‘healing space’ that the recipient can use to bring their own energy system into balance, without conscious or deliberate intervention.

Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive, therapy. It is safe to use on anyone of any age.

What to expect during a Reiki treatment.

The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If this is uncomfortable it is possible for the treatment to be given in a seated position. There is no need to remove any clothing. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body.

What a Reiki treatment feels like varies from person to person, however, feelings of deep relaxation and calm are usual. As Reiki energy encourages the release of tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings - a state of well-being is experienced.

After a Reiki treatment most people feel relaxed, refreshed and at peace. You may feel tired or you may feel full of energy. Sometimes Reiki may stir up emotions as part of the healing process and some people experience this ‘healing reaction’ as headache or flu-like symptoms, which are normally mild and of short duration.

How many treatments do I need?

You can benefit from a one-off Reiki treatment, which will relax you and bring a sense of peace and calm. However, the

effects of Reiki are cumulative so the best results come through having a course of treatments, maybe 4-6 sessions at

regular intervals.
